Laboratory Studies

In many instances when working with industrial and municipal wastewaters, key process design information may not be available because there is no existing treatment plant, or the wastewater characteristics are not 'standard'. In such cases, laboratory studies are generally an invaluable tool to provide important information about the treatment of the wastewater. Some reasons for using laboratory studies include:

  • Determining biodegradability and rates of biodegradation
  • Determining process parameters for design (e.g. nitrification rates, mass transfer rates)
  • Evaluating treatment options for a "new" industrial effluent
  • Optimising operating parameters of biological systems
  • Development of innovative treatment techniques
  • Process concept design

We can perform batch and continuous biological treatability studies, SBR process studies, MBBR process studies, MBR and anaerobic reactor studies, coagulation/flocculation jar testing studies and advanced oxidation treatment studies in our PLC equipped laboratory.

Wastewater Futures staff have extensive research and laboratory backgrounds. We understand that most companies do not have the facilities, and often lack the equipment, time and resources to perform water and wastewater related laboratory studies. Wastewater Futures is equipped and capable to tackle most water and wastewater related laboratory studies.

Perseverance Gold Mine Wastewater

Laboratory studies for the removal of thiocyanate from wastewater produced by Perserverance Gold Mine were undertaken.  Biological degradation of thiocyanate was achieved.  However, the laboratory study highlighted potential inhibition amongst a number of other commissioning issues.
