Treatability Studies

Membrane processes are often designed with limited knowledge of feedwater characteristics. The pretreatment and membrane processes that are then used can be either ineffective or sub-optimal. Membrane Futures has the ability to perform all types of laboratory treatability studies to aid the design of advanced water and wastewater treatment systems.

Micro and Ultrafiltration Studies

Membrane Futures can assess the appropriateness of various micro and ultra-filtration treatment methods for water and wastewater applications using standard flux tests.

Reverse Osmosis and Nano-filtration studies

The treatment of water using reverse osmosis and nanofiltration is highly reliant on the quality of the water being fed to the process. Nano and RO flat sheet testing is useful for quickly investigating the technologies for unusual water sources (i.e. industrial waters). It is also good to use flat sheet testing after pre-treatment changes have been made to verify treatability, the limits of recovery and types of fouling that occur after the changes to the pre-treatment.

Ion Exchange Studies

Many types of membrane water treatment systems require ion exchange for water softening. These are often considered in membrane pre-treatment processes. Membrane Futures has the ability to perform batch isotherm testing as well as continuous laboratory scale column testing to determine limits of removal, ion exchange breakthrough and regeneration ability.

Jar Tests

Jar testing is mandatory when designing coagulating pre-treatment systems, particularly for organic and phosphorous removal. Membrane Futures can perform these tests. We can also work with clients to design other Jar test protocols.


General Analysis

Membrane Futures performs most water and wastewater analytical procedures. Common techniques include cation and anion analysis, alkalinity, hardness, TOC, COD, BOD, nutrients, SDI, turbidity, colour, etc. are used on a daily basis by our lab.
